Accolades

We ended our Coffee and Donuts year with a delightful house concert near Yorkville, CA. By this time we had eaten all the donuts, and were mainly serving coffee with music. We had a splendid response to all these coffee concerts. Indeed, our contact Peter Brodigan, who arranged this concert, wrote us after:

I wanted to thank you again for a top-notch concert this afternoon.  Your playing was so nicely in sync, and you clearly have a great sense of ensemble with each other.  The individual solos were all so excellently played, and had a variety to them, so each one stood out on its own.  The speaking was just right – the right amount of detail, playfulness and information.  The choice of pieces managed a balance of serious, beautiful, virtuoso, small and large group.

The audience loved it, and I appreciated your generosity in bringing the program to our friends in Yorkville.  I heard nothing but accolades for the program.”

Thank you to everyone who hosted us this year, and thanks to our wonderful audiences. We are taking a few moments to clear our minds, and then time to plan a new program!

Keeping Going with ‘Coffee’!

Well, we enjoyed performing our Coffee with Friends concert in Mill Valley on the Throckmorton Theater series, and also at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts. In January we will be in Palo Alto, at Channing House, on Jan 10 at 4 pm, keeping you awake with caffeine oriented music! And, we are looking into bringing the whole Coffee and Donuts to Westhaven, but more on that at a later date!

Donuts are eaten! Time for tea!

WEll! We had a great turn out and a fun concert at the BFX fringe! Despite a broken string in the third half of the concert, it was fun, delightful, enjoyable, beautiful…. All adjectives we heard that day from people who are not even family!!!! Now it is back to the teapot for our final outing of the Country Gardens concert, June 16, at 2:00. Please email ruthescher@gmail.com to reserve a seat!

Berkeley Festival, Coffee and Donuts!

Well, here we are in Berkeley Early Music Festival week! The ABCers are diligently practicing their parts while tucking Wagner Ring rehearsals around the edges. Our Thursday June 7 concert at 11 A.M. at the Berkeley Piano Club will be tasty and tasteful. (Mostly!) You should just come to hear the Louis Heudelinne Chaconne!

Here is Judiyaba, fresh off the Rheingold boat, rehearsing that Heudelinne right now. You can almost hear it, but not quite, so be there on Thursday, so you will hear it!

Meanwhile……..Gwyneth Davis and Phebe Craig are rehearsing Marais’ Saillie de Café!

Yours truly is usually behind the camera, so here is a photo of her working detritus: (note important teacup!)

As you see, we work hard for your applause. So, be there on Thursday and have some coffee, doughnuts, maybe tea, and definitely beautiful music!

ABC is looking forward to playing at the Garden Party benefit for the BFX. This time we are doing a condensed version of the Country Gardens program.  Nicola Matteis, who walked across Europe to England with a violin on his back under his cloak (was rich for a while and died a pauper), Tobias Hume, a soldier, (who died in poverty), Orlando Gibbons, organist and composer (died of a sudden apoplexy), John Jenkins (well loved by all), Daniel Purcell ( a mysterious relative of Henry), and Thomas Arne (Rule, Brittannia!). If you can not attend this event, we are performing the whole concert at a house concert in June.
